Help Keep Northern Stories Free for Everyone

Support Northern Threads Magazine & Building On Threads

Northern Ontario is filled with incredible people, inspiring stories, unique communities, and voices that deserve to be heard. Through Northern Threads Magazine and the Building On Threads Podcast, we are committed to sharing those stories while keeping our content free and accessible to everyone.

Every month, Northern Threads Magazine highlights the people, places, events, history, arts, culture, businesses, and community initiatives that help shape life across Northern Ontario. Through Building On Threads, we sit down with everyday people, community leaders, advocates, artists, entrepreneurs, and changemakers to share authentic conversations that inspire, educate, and connect.

What makes these projects unique is that they are built by volunteers who believe in the power of community storytelling.

Giving Youth a Voice

One of our greatest passions is creating opportunities for young people to be heard. Through our youth-focused initiatives and the Frequency X section of Northern Threads Magazine, we provide a platform where youth can share their ideas, creativity, experiences, and perspectives while developing confidence, communication skills, and connections with others across the North.

When you support us, you are helping ensure that youth voices continue to have a place alongside the stories of seniors, families, businesses, artists, Indigenous communities, volunteers, and everyday Northern residents.

Why We Need Your Support

Producing a high-quality digital magazine and podcast involves ongoing expenses, including:

  • Website hosting and maintenance
  • Podcast production and distribution
  • Software and publishing tools
  • Photography and media resources
  • Community outreach and promotion
  • Youth engagement initiatives
  • Travel and coverage of Northern events and stories

While our team donates countless volunteer hours, financial support helps us continue growing and reaching communities across Northern Ontario.

Who We Are:

There is a massive, untapped wealth of skill, wisdom, and grit in the people of Northern Ontario. We live in a place where the landscape is vast, but our stories are even deeper. Building On Threads was created to be a comprehensive, one-stop shop for our region—stitching together a podcast, a magazine, and a speakers bureau to ensure these voices are heard, connected, and celebrated.

While our focus is firmly on Northern Ontario, we believe that the journey of the human spirit is universal. We aren’t exclusionary; if you have a story that fits our mission of triumph, growth, and healing, we want to hear it.

Why We Started

This mission is deeply personal. For me, the catalyst for everything was the loss of my nephew. That heartbreak sparked a series of life-altering changes and led me to a realization: my story needed to be told. In finding my own voice through the grief, I realized that so many others are carrying stories that are just waiting for a place to land. Healing is an art shared by all, and we are here to make sure those stories find their way to the people who need them most.
