Who Am I?
I am a “Steward of the Scar.”
My journey into professional speaking wasn’t one I chose—it was one born out of profound personal tragedies. And after the loss of my nephew, Nicholas, to a senseless murder, my world was pulled apart like a tangled pile of yarn.
My journey into professional speaking wasn’t one I chose—it was one born out of profound personal tragedies. And after the loss of my nephew, Nicholas, to a senseless murder, my world was pulled apart like a tangled pile of yarn.
In the aftermath, I didn’t just look for a way to heal; I looked for a way to weave something new.

I’ve spent years working at the intersection of art, advocacy, and education. I created a safe, artistic space for youth where they could engage in the tough conversations that words alone couldn’t handle. Today, I work with organizations, schools, and community groups to bridge the communication gaps caused by trauma, grief, and addiction.
My mission is simple: to help you move past the “wound” and become a steward of your own story. Whether through my book, Threads, or my speaking engagements, I provide the practical tools and creative modalities needed to turn our deepest challenges into our greatest strengths.
Speaking Topics
The Stewardship of the Scar
Moving past the “wound” phase and learning how to use your lived experience as a tool for leadership and connection. This session explores how to transform personal tragedy into a purposeful roadmap for helping others.
Wound vs. Scar
A framework for understanding when to share, how to share, and how to protect your own peace while helping others. Karrie teaches audiences how to identify when a story is ready to be told and how to maintain healthy boundaries in vulnerable spaces.
The Fabric of Grief: Weaving Strength from Broken Threads
Based on the book Threads
Grief often feels like a messy, tangled pile of yarn. Inspired by her book Threads, Karrie helps audiences navigate the complexity of loss by identifying the “tangled threads” of trauma and finding the “gold thread” of remembrance to begin weaving a new story.
The Art of Reweaving
When the original pattern of our life has been torn apart, how do we start over? This session is a deep dive into the process of reconstruction. Karrie provides practical, creative steps to pick up the loose threads of our lives and purposefully re-weave them into something strong, resilient, and new.
Creative Resilience
Using artistic modalities to process grief, addiction, and personal development when words aren’t enough. This session explores how creative expression provides a safe middle ground for tough conversations and helps bridge the communication gaps caused by trauma.
